Couponing 101: Check Shelf Tags

Do you look at the shelf tags at the grocery store? I’m not talking about checking the price necessarily. One key to knowing how much to stockpile is knowing when the sale end date is.

For example, Kroger has Suave listed on sale this week in their ad circular. I looked at the shelf tag and the sale actually runs for a couple of weeks. That means there is no rush to buy the Suave. Another example, Harris Teeter has Peter Pan Peanut Butter on sale for $2. I was going to stockup since I have a $0.50 off coupon that will double to $1 off. The sale continues for several weeks- no rush to use all of my coupons now.

Use the shelf tag to tell you when to buy. If it is an item that you don’t need that week and the sale and the coupon are still good beyond that sales week, consider waiting. This is very helpful for me on weeks where my budget is tight.

If you shop at Kroger, I have started keeping a list of unadvertised Kroger deals with the sale end date listed. This will help you determine when to buy!
