As you all know, we have plenty of eggs due to our productive hens! I decided that we should put some of the egg shells to use and make a Spring craft.

Chick in an Egg

Supplies

Eggshell
Yellow Pom Pom’s or Batting
Googly Eyes
Orange Paper
Glue Gun
Cardboard

I love to do crafts with my boys from items we have on hand. I did not have pom pom’s so I opted to die some batting yellow. I just placed the batting in a ziploc bag with yellow acrylic paint and water. Shake until  batting is colored. Remove batting from bag and let dry 24 hours.

For the eggshells, I just crack the egg near the top. Wash with warm soapy water and let dry. Be careful as eggshells can be very delicate. We did not have a problem since farm fresh eggs tend to have a thicker shell.

Glue the eggshell to a piece of cardboard with hot glue so the eggshell stands up. Place the pom poms or batting in the eggshell to form the chick. Glue the googly eyes on. Take the orange paper and cut it into a diamond. Fold the diamond in half to make a beak. Glue the beak to the chick.

My boys had so much fun making these! You could also incorporate a lesson into this craft on how baby birds are born.

  1. I’m not sure why but this web site is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a issue on my end? I’ll
check back later on and see if the problem still exists.

  1. […] How to Have it All has a cute little craft that uses real eggs. She cleans them with warm soapy water to make sure they are not contaminated before doing that craft.  I love her technique for dying the batting using acrylic paint and water in a zip lock bag. Head on over to see how she made these adorable little chicks! You may also like… […]
