Meat

One of the things that beginning couponers struggle with is knowing what a good price is. I really encourage all of you to make your own price book since grocery prices vary widely depending on the region. To get you started, I will list my target prices for stocking up on meat.

Sometimes it will be cheaper than the prices I have listed below. However, I make a point not to buy meat that is over the price listed.

  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast, $1.99/lb.
  • Chicken Breast Bone-in, $0.98/lb.
  • Whole Chicken, $0.89 to $0.99/lb.
  • Ribeye Steak, $5.99/lb.
  • Beef Roast, $2.49/lb.
  • Boneless Pork Loin, $1.99/lb.
  • Pork Chops, $1.99/lb.
  • Sashimi Tuna Medallions, $5.99/lb.
  • Fresh Tilapia, $3.99/lb.
  • Spiral Cut Ham, $1.49/lb.
  • Ground Turkey, $2.50/lb.

Remember that meat prices will vary per region- my prices are based on the Central Virginia region. I also always look for meat on markdown. I either use it that day or throw it in the freezer. Either plan your menu around what type of meat is on sale that week or stock meat in your freezer.

Just got two , ten # bags of chicken leg quarters, on special at FL, for $4.11 each! Was so happy to stock up!

  2. What’s your target price for ground beef? I try for $1.99/lb, is that about right?

    • Hi Laura,
It depends on the percentage of fat in the ground meat. I think the leaner ground beef is a bit more than $1.99/lb. Honestly, I don’t buy a lot of ground beef anymore. I just found that ground turkey is healthier and cheaper! We had ground turkey tacos for dinner tonight and they tasted wonderful. Even my hubby (who love red meat) thought they tasted great!
