Bob & Capt M Apples

Every season we go to the orchard or fields to pick fresh fruit. Since my boys were babies we have done this as a family. Each year we try to pick strawberries, cherries, blueberries, apples and peaches. This year due to my busy travel schedule we missed out on cherries and blueberries.

Capt. M and Mr. B love helping pick fruit! Of course they have to taste a fair amount of fruit. They are our official testers! Going to the orchard teaches them how fruit is grown. When we bring the produce home they learn how it is processed to make different foods likes jam, applesauce and canned peaches. We let them help with the canning and freezing process too.

Picking fresh fruit has become a family tradition for us. We planted fruit trees of our own and hope that one day they will be loaded with fruit to pick right at home!

What are your family traditions? Do you take your family to the fruit orchards or fields?
