portraits

Children of all ages love the ARTS. They enjoy creating self-portraits like these girls above did this past week. Children are natural actors with a voice of their own. They love music. Turn on a radio and you’ll soon hear little ones singing aloud.

paint

This school year introduce your child to as many of the arts as possible. Sneak them in with a unit they are studying in school. On a family trip, plan on taking a paint class along your route. Or create a canvas at home…..anything and everything can be turned into ART.

There are many art advocate quotes that I could reflect upon but as a former educator and as a mom to a first grader (Litsa), I know first hand that the arts matter. They add splashes of color to our lives but they enrich our life with so much more than we can ever touch upon in one post but I’ll leave you with this quote from Steve Jobs:

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people. Unfortunately, that’s too rare a commodity. A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have lots of dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solution without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.”

The arts matter—–connect the dots in your life and allow the children you’re investing in to be inspired through the arts in their lives.
