Our nephew is in his first year of college out of state. I remember vividly the first couple of months away from home. I was excited yet homesick. I loved getting mail from loved ones! It always brightened my day! Since our nephew has been a couple of months now, we figured it would be a great time to brighten his day.

For the care package I designed I wanted everything to be in yellow packaging. That way when he opened the box it would be like a big burst of sunshine! I had hubby make a card with a big sun on it saying “Here is a little something to brighten your day!” Included in the box was:

  • Snacks: Powerade, Powerbar, Sour Patch Kids (his favorite), Gum, Slim Jims
  • Personal Care Items: Chapstick, Bandaids, Small bottle of Tide, Hand Sanitizer
  • Fun Items: Small football, whoopie cushion
  • School Supplies: Highlighters, post-it notes, paper pads

We tried to make the items fun but useful!  I used a medium flat rate box from the post office for shipping. The flat rate shipping boxes are the best deal for shipping boxes out of state. Overall I spent about $25 on the box which included shipping it. The Dollar Store is a great source for many of these items!

If you know of a college student that could us ea little sunshine, keep this idea in mind!
