Country Life: Garden Soil Prep

Today is glorious! With the temperature in the 60’s we headed out to work in the garden area today. Our garden area is fenced in and leaves tend to get trapped. Since I plan to start planting cold weather vegetables in March, the leaves and weeds need to be removed now.

Capt. M and Mr. B are wonderful helpers. Of course boys love digging in the dirt! But I think they are just excited as I am to get the garden going.

Once we remove the weeds, we will be adding a bit more top soil to some of the boxes. We have red clay in our area meaning we have to buy soil. We didn’t add any soil last year and some of the boxes are getting low since our garden is on a hill. When it rains hard, the soil gets washed down the slope.

This week we will:

  • Remove weeds
  • Add soil
  • Till the soil to mix everything (hubby’s job)

We are also working on a greenhouse! I will share pictures of that project next week!
