Chickens Light

We have had a frigid last few weeks in Central Virginia. Temperatures have been in the single digits with wind chills below freezing some nights. Although chickens are really hardy animals, we do worry about keeping them warm.

Our chickens have a coop they roost in at night which blocks the wind. We have also added a light to the coop for some extra warmth. We use just a regular energy efficient bulb in the coop for the chickens. As a bonus, extra hours of light helps the hens lay eggs more regularly.

If you have outdoor pets, make sure to keep them warm this winter! Make sure they have shelter, bedding off the ground and possibly a light to help with warmth.
