Dehydrating Bananas

dehyradted fruitA friend has recently started dehydrating fruit and vegetables for her daughter’s new paleo diet. As we gathered to visit and craft, nuts and dried fruit were always a part of our gatherings. Therefore, she shared her dehydrator with me (Litsa). I was eager to use it since I always have fresh fruit on my counter tops. I definitely wanted a few jars and bags of fruit to add to my pantry for quick grab and go snacks both at home and while out shopping/running errands this season!

bananas dehyratingBananas are relatively cheap year round. Thus, I opted to begin with bananas in my borrowed dehydrator! I bought two bunches of bananas and peeled them. Next, I sliced them into thin slices and placed them on the dehydrator’s racks. I sprinkled my banana slices with a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg just for added yumminess! Then, I placed them in the dehydrator and plugged the machine up (12 hours)*. It extracted the moisture from the bananas and left chewy chips of seasoned fruit for me to enjoy this week!

I was pleased with the results. It’s just as easy to eat a banana as a snack rather than prepping banana slices to dehydrate but the chewy, chip-like option is fun to toss in lunch boxes and on my work table to munch on while I blog or chat.

I’m loving these dehydrating banana chips right now!

*I plugged in the dehydrator at dinner time and unplugged in the morning before coffee-time–an easy approach to manage working in dehydrating fruit to an already busy schedule.
