Caramel apples are a fall favorite! I (Litsa) have always coveted them but had never really had them. Growing up in a Greek household, we ate apples daily but never with caramel. I believe three years ago, I had my first caramel apple at the local fair. I ate ALL of it—-loved it! I vowed then to make sure I took the opportunity to make caramel apples in the fall. Thus, in 2011 my then three year old and I made caramel apples from a recipe online (from scratch–no caramel candies). They were decadent! Here’s a snapshot of them:
This Saturday, we tried a different caramel apple recipe that I found online. It was delicious too! Again, we did not use caramel candies but mixed together many ooey gooey ingredients to get this delightful, gorgeous caramel onto our Fuji apples. We took the process a step further by adding twigs to the apples for stems and candies and/or nuts to the apples. My favorite was the caramel apple dipped in pecans!
If you’ve never made caramel apples at home, I encourage you not to stray from this fall favorite. Add it too your list and make sticky memories at home with your child(ren)! First, find a recipe that you can easily replicate. I read several online before pinpointing the one that we used. Next, shop for your ingredients* (after you’ve checked your pantry for what you have on hand). Then, set out all of your ingredients and kitchen utensils, etc. Finally, create the perfect caramel apples—-YOURS!
*Don’t forget too about Renae’s apple variety post prior to shopping for apples!
Have a happy Sticky, STICKY, gooey decadent experience in your kitchen!
