Fitness: Get Moving With Your Kids

Two years ago the word “workout” was just a thought in my brain. I would talk about the need to workout, but never really make the effort to get moving. Getting into a fitness routine is hard at first. But once you get going a routine sets in. I now workout out a consistent five days a week and I LOVE it!

So how do you get started?

My biggest suggestion is to get moving with your kids. If they are active in sports, do it with them. Stop sitting on the sidelines and get out there to participate! When my boys and I started karate a few months back, it was way out of my comfort zone. I had no clue what I was doing and here I was in a class with little kids making a fool of myself. Not to mention the parents of all of these kids were sitting there watching me. I had to block out the people watching to keep my self-conscious brain in check. After a few classes I had adults coming up to me saying they wish they had the guts to get out there and try karate. I can’t tell you how many adults have told me they wish they had the nerve to try it!

Here is the thing, it was/is uncomfortable for me too! The key is to push through that awkward feeling. So what if you make a fool of yourself. I can tell you from my experience that most parents will be applauding your efforts. Your kids will also think you are the bomb! Seriously, they will love that you are getting involved. Learning together has made karate so much fun for is.

So whether it is soccer, dance, karate, basketball or volleyball get out there and take up a sport with your kids. You just might find a new sport that you love while at the same time building a bond with your child. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to get moving!
