freeze cherries

Last week when Whole Foods Market had cherries on sale for $1.99/lb., I came home with 5 pounds of cherries! This was a stockup price on cherries as I have seen them priced as high as $5.99/lb.! Cherries freeze well so I decided to buy extra for freezing. Frozen cherries are great in a smoothie or baked goods.

Pitted cherries

The first step is to pick out fresh cherries to freeze. For the freshest selection, look for cherries that still hav ea green stem. The next step is the wash and dry the cherries. Then you will want to pit them. Cherries can be frozen with the pits in them, but this can lead to a nutty taste. Plus the cherries need to be pitted at some point so you might as well get it out of the way!

Cherries on baking sheet

Once the cherries are pitted, place them on a baking sheet in a single layer. I like to flash freeze all of my produce so that it doesn’t clump together. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for an hour or two. Once the cherries are frozen, remove them from the baking sheet and place them in freezer bag. You can also use a FoodSaver at this point.

That’s it! Super easy to freeze cherries!
