Produce Wash Recipe

It’s important to wash your fruit and vegetables thoroughly before consuming. Even if you are buying organic produce, you should wash it to remove dirt and insects. Leafy green produce from my garden gets a soak in a simple solution of vinegar and salt before I use it. Although I rinse the produce before I put it in the vegetable soak, it’s amazing how much debris comes off!

Produce Wash

For my vegetable soak I use a large bowl of homemade produce wash and a colander. I set the colander in the large bowl of the produce wash This makes it easy to drain the produce when the produce soak is done.

I know what you are thinking, vinegar and salt sounds like a yucky combination! There is no aftertaste on the produce after soaking in the vinegar and salt solution. Here is the recipe:

Dirty Water Produce Wash

The vinegar and salt draw out the dirt and insects as well as cut down the wax on store bought produce. It’s hard to tell in this picture, but this is my water after swiss chard from my garden was soaking. There was dirt and little insects!

Do you use a produce wash? Don’t buy a mix at the store, this produce wash is so inexpensive and easy to make!
