Garden Update: Mole Hole and Frost Bite

Mole Hole

Vegetable gardening can be frustrating at times. It is extremely reliant on the weather. Plus, pests are always an issue. When I was taking my morning tour of our vegetable garden this morning I found some of my swiss chard uprooted. It is apparent that there is a mole loose in the garden! I ran water down the hole trying to flush him out but that was of no use. We will have to research pest control for moles!

Cucumber Frost Bite

Our weather has been less than ideal for the vegetable garden. We waited longer than normal to plant our tomatoes and cucumbers due to the oddly cool spring. Even though we waited until mid-May, some of our plants still have a little frost bite. Since we started these plants from seedlings, they are like our babies! Hopefully they will be able to pull through.

Just to make sure, I did purchase some tomato and pepper plants a couple of days ago. At the slow rate that our plants that we planted from seed are growing, they won’t produce until late summer. So, the larger plants we purchased should help up in the early summer months.

Of course the spinach, kale, lettuce and herbs continue to do well in this cool weather!

If you have any mole control tips, please share?
