Garden Update: Re-Growing Celery

A few weeks ago I discovered that you can re-grow a celery plant from celery you buy in the store! Capt. M likes celery, but the rest of us don’t care for it too much. I buy organic celery for Capt. M and most of the time he can’t get through the whole bunch before it goes bad. The great thing about growing our own in the garden is we can cut off one stock at a time!

It is very easy to re-grow celery from your store bought celery! Just cut the bottom part of the bunch of celery off. Dig a small hole in your garden and bury the celery.

I buried the stalk to just about dirt level but kept the top exposed. Water the celery generously to promote root growth.

Wait a few days for new growth to appear! The picture above is about 10 days after the planting.

You should have seen the look on Capt. M’s face when he saw the new growth! Smiling ear to ear! He can’t wait to taste a piece in a few weeks.

This is similar to growing scallions from store bought green onions!
