Green Tea

Antioxidants are important to incorporate into your diet in order to reduce free radicals in our bodies. The free radicals are harmful molecules and the antioxidants repair they damage they do. Some foods and beverages that have antioxidants are pomegranates, blueberries, red wine, dark chocolate and green tea.

There are studies that show that green tea helps reduce cancer growth. Green tea may also be good for your heart health and reduce LDL cholesterol. There are limited human studies as of now, but the lab studies all show good results. “Taken altogether, the evidence certainly suggests that incorporating at least a few cups of green tea every day will positively affect your health,” says Diane McKay, PhD, a Tufts University scientist who studies antioxidants.

I started drinking green tea a few weeks ago. I try to drink three cups a day. The jury is still out on how many cups of green tea are needed a day for the health benefits. I have read anywhere from 2-5 cups. Most of the time I drink the green tea without a sweetener. On occasion, I will add my local raw honey.

Overall, I feel great drinking green tea! I don’t get the jittery feeling I had when drinking coffee. Green tea is a vasodilator though, so it will make you run for the bathroom!

Do you drink green tea? What is your favorite variety?
