heartfelt holiday

If you are still looking for a homemade gift idea, check out the decoupage project I did this last week! I am so thrilled with how it came out! First, if you need a tutorial on decoupage, remember I posted decoupage instructions a couple months ago.

For this project I bought a clear glass plate and tissue paper from the Dollar Tree (my new favorite store!). I traced Capt. M and Mr. B’s hands on silver and gold tissue paper. After I cut out their handprints, I wrote their name and the year on them.

I turned the plate over and started glued the handprints to the plate using Mod Podge. I then filled in the surrounding area with patterned tissue paper.

Don’t you just love how it turned out? It honestly looks even better in person than in the picture. This is a gift for a family member who I hope is not reading my blog this week!

Another decoupage project that turned out great was this plate:

I have two more decoupage plates to go before Christmas!

  1. Are you able to wash the plate with the Decoupage or is it more for decoration only? Love the idea :)

    • Hi Jinna,

You can’t soak the plate in water. I do apply an acrylic spray over the decoupage and you can wipe it off. For plates I am going to use for food, I place the decoupage on the back (underneath) the plate. I then only place foods on it that can be easily wiped off. I have one Christmas plate I made 10 years ago that I can still use! It holds up well as long as you don’t set it in water.

  2. So you glue the tissue paper on with the Mod Podge and then spray with the acrylic spray?? What is the name of the acrylic spray and where do you get it? (Can you tell I’m not very crafty?) Just want to be sure I get it right because this is an AWESOME idea and so very budget friendly.

  3. Oh this is so great. I always have the kids make a hand print ornaments but as their hands get bigger the prints become more difficult for ornaments. This will be great for grandparent gifts. Thanks much!
