Homemade Bath Salt & Body Scrub

It’s time to start making Christmas gifts! Hubby and I like to give homemade gifts to our relatives and friends when we can. I admit I am a bit behind this year! However, I just experimented with homemade bath salt and body scrubs. This project takes just a few minutes to throw together. These are great for a last minute gift since most likely you will have the ingredients on hand. It is also easy to make substitutions and variations.

Bath Salt

3/4 Cup Epsom Salt
1/4 Cup Canning Salt (pickling salt)
3-6 Drops Essential Oil
Food Coloring

In a bowl combine both types of salt. I used two different types for a different consistency- Epsom salt is coarser than the canning salt. Add essential oil a couple of drops at a time. I used Orange Blossom but you can use whatever you want. Add a 1-3 drops of food coloring. Mix really well. You don’t want to add too much food coloring so the salt doesn’t dye the skin when used.

Add a couple of tablespoons to hot bath water and enjoy!

Mocha Vanilla Body Scrub

3/4 Cup Epsom Salt
1/4 Cup Canning Salt (pickling salt)
1/4 Cup Oil (Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Safflower Oil or Light Olive Oil)
1/4 Cup Instant Coffee
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix really well. Use as a scrub in the shower for smooth and moisturized skin.

If you prefer, you can use sugar instead of salt. If you don’t like the smell of coffee, omit the instant coffee in the scrub and add your favorite essential oil. I used olive oil because it is what I had on hand. However, it does have a slight odor. Jojoba Oil had no scent so you might want to use that.

  1. Hello just wanted to give you a brief heads up and
let you know a few of the images aren’t loading correctly. I’m not sure
why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different web browsers and both show the same results.
