Homemade is best! This is my motto and one my family and I truly try to adhere to! We eat out very rarely and make & bake from scratch as much as possible—including an American staple—the FROZEN PIZZA! We’re like just about every other family—we live busy lives and sometimes only have time for quick and easy. With a little preparation and forethought, you can have healthy foods on hands for quick meals without hitting the frozen food aisle on the way home from work.

To make frozen pizzas there are only 2 RULES to follow:

  1. Parbake the pizza crust. (Partially bake and then freeze.)
  2. Double wrap for storage. (Use plastic wrap or my favorite Glad Press’n Seal followed by foil)

After the pizza dough is parbaked and cooled, add the pizza toppings. Then wrap the pizza in plastic wrap. Make sure to wrap tightly to prevent freezer burn.

Then wrap the pizza in heavy duty foil. If wrapped correctly, a homemade frozen pizza should be good in the freezer for about three months.

I like to make homemade pizza dough but you can use store bought dough too. Experiment with different pizza toppings and sauces too! The ingredient amounts will vary depending on how many pizzas you’d like to store. I typically make a double batch of homemade dough, which yields 5-6 medium sized pizzas.

Ingredients
  • Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • Pizza sauce (or desired base: olive oil, BBQ sauce, ranch dressing etc.)
  • Shredded cheese(s)
  • Topping(s)
Instructions
  1. If using homemade dough prep prior to beginning---if using store-bought dough set out on counter for 15 minutes to acclimate to room temperature.
  2. Preheat a baking stone in oven to 450 degrees F.
  3. Roll out dough into desire size and thickness on a pizza peel sprinkled with flour or cornmeal (to prevent sticking).
  4. Transfer to preheated stone and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Continue steps for all additional crusts.
  6. Once cooled, spread with sauce, top with favorite toppings, sprinkle with cheese and place on baking sheets in the freezer until frozen solid (approximately 2-3 hours).
  7. Once frozen, remove from freezer and wrap tightly in saran wrap, then wrap tightly in aluminum foil. Use freezer-tape to label each with the date & pizza description. Frozen pizzas should remain fresh if wrapped properly for at least 3 months.
  8. When ready to bake, preheat a baking stone in oven to 450-500 degrees F and bake for 8-10 minutes or until crust is golden brown on bottom and cheese is melted on top.
  9. Serve & enjoy!
