chai latte

I’m a sucker for fancy drinks at coffee shops. When it comes down to it, it’s much more cost effective to make these beverages at home. Of course you just need a little planning but the process is very easy.

The nice thing about this chai latte recipe is that you can steep the tea ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. To get the best flavor from your chai tea, make sure you heat the water to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Using a tea kettle to boil the water will help with this process. An automatic electric tea kettle is an easy way to boil the water to the needed temperature.

For the full on coffee house effect, top your chai latte with whipped cream, cinnamon or nutmeg!

Author:
Serves: (4) 8 oz.
Ingredients
  • 3 ½ cups (28 oz.) water
  • (2) Tazo Chai Tea Bags
  • 3 tbsp. dark brown sugar
  • 4 oz. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (may substitute with preferred milk or milk alternative)
  • Ice
Instructions
  1. Boil water to 212 degrees F. This temperature is the ideal water temp for steeping chai tea.
  2. Add boiling water and tea bags to a heatproof pourable container that you can later store in the refrigerator and let the tea steep for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Remove tea bags, add brown sugar and milk; stir until sugar is dissolved.
  4. Cool on the counter to room temperature before transferring to the refrigerator to chill. If you prefer really strong chai flavor add the tea bags back to the jug as it cools on the counter.
  5. Once chilled, pour over ice.
  6. Serve & enjoy. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
