Ideas to Keep Kid’s Busy on Gameday

Football season is heating up! In our house, that means the Steelers game will be on each weekend. At the age of 5 and 6, my boys attention span for watching a game is short. They watch a few plays and then they are ready for another activity. So how do we keep our kid’s entertained on game day?

monopoly

We always have board games and cards available. It is easy for us to play games with the kids as we watch the game. Plus, games can be educational. Capt. M’s all time favorite game is Monopoly which is closely followed by Uno. Both games require counting and number recognition.

Another favorite activity is sponge balls. The great thing about sponge balls is they can be played with indoors or outdoors. Indoors the kids can play a toss game without worrying about breaking something. On a warm day, sponge balls are great dredged in water! Of course that’s an outside activity!

Boys in Mud

When full boredom has set in, it’s time to kick the kids outside for some roughhousing. It’s time to get down and dirty in the mud and dirt. I know some of you are cringing, but the mud keeps them entertained for a long time! If you are against mud, send the kids outside to play their own ball game. After sometime in the fresh air, the kids will be ready to come back in to watch a few more plays; and eat of course!

Before the kid’s can enter the house though, I have them strip down on the back porch. The clothes go straight in the wash! Tide has a new product called Tide Plus Febreze Freshness Sport specifically designed for the toughest sports stains. We are talking mud, clay, grass stains and more. Of course the Febreze helps eliminate that sweaty smell- you know what I am talking about!

Now I want to hear from you! What are your ideas for keeping kids entertained on gameday?
