Basil Tomato Cream Sauce
I love Italian food and so does my family. This is an easy cream sauce you can make that is very flavorful. I even make part of the sauce the day before to make for an easy work night meal.

Italian Sausage With Basil Tomato Cream Sauce

1/2 pound Italian Sausage
1 (14.5 oz.) Can Diced Tomatoes W/ Basil
20 Fresh Basil Leaves, chopped
2 Cloves Garlic, pressed
1 Cup Heavy Cream
1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese
1 Pound Pasta

In a large skillet brown sausage until it crumbles and it no longer pink. Drain excess grease. Add tomatoes, basil and garlic. Bring to a boil and then simmer on low with the lid on for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.  I prepare up until this point the day before. If preparing ahead, let mixture cool before placing in fridge.

Add cream and parmesan cheese to the meat and tomato mixture. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until the sauce begins to thicken. Make pasta according to package directions. Serve sauce over top cooked pasta.

Tips

  • Preparing part of the sauce the day before is a huge time saver. Even if you just cooked the sausage ahead of time it would be helpful.
  • Add onion for extra flavor.
  • Your house will smell amazingly wonderful while the sauce is simmering!
