Using a Kiddie Pool for Container Gardening

Pool container garden

With all of the destruction that the voles and moles did to my vegetable garden last year, we decided to plant some things in a container. The voles really liked the swiss chard, lettuce, spinach and beets last year. Even though our puppies areĀ  turning into great mole and vole hunters, I still see tunnels in the yard! When we were planting the vegetable garden, I decided to use our old kiddie pool for the vulnerable plants.

To use a kiddie pool, you will need to drill holes in the sides and bottom for drainage. Our pool already had a few cracks in the bottom so hubby just took a very large drill bit and made holes in the side. We then used the top soil from our old raised beds. Originally I had the spinach, swiss chard, beets and lettuce all neatly spaced out in the pool. However, two little puppies had a digging adventure one day and dispersed the seeds! Nevertheless, the plants are growing and no worries about tunneling under them!
