August has rolled into September and schools are in full session all across our nation! In my mind that means busy moms and dads everywhere! So how do we save ourselves from the big bowls of junk food: Cookies, chips, cakes, etc.!?! Revisit clean eating and these Food Prep tips—–they are BASIC. Easy to remember to do….they just need to be part of our daily routines—–and everyone can help. These food-ready tips can help get you and your family out the door quicker——but not just out the door….FED!?!

  • Cook once, eat twice. Use your meal planning time to think about one or two food preps that would provide leftovers (i.e. spaghetti, lasagna, chicken pot pie, etc.)
  • Use your freezer. Stash leftovers in freezer-safe containers. Set up a day for freezer cooking!
  • Make or bake one delicious dish/snack on the weekend. Add it to lunches and/or breakfasts throughout the week for a special no-think option.
  • Pack lunches while dinner cooks. If homework is done in the kitchen and your family gathers in the kitchen to cook together, take this time to prepack lunches (even one or two items help save time). You can even sneak in lunch packing prior to dish-washing!?!
  • Prep, slice and DICE! Cut up fresh fruits and vegetables in advance. Add them to lunches quickly from a large container and/or pack them in mini bags/containers.

Who didn’t need at least one Food Prep 101 tip!?!  What works for you may not work for your best friend or me but together we can help one another be successful in our homes as we remind ourselves how awesome we are at juggling healthy eating families!
