Kroger Lower Prices

Yes, it’s true. The Kroger Mid-Atlantic region will be ending double coupons as of May 12, 2013. Since I am a regular Kroger shopper, this news saddens me! I had a good conversation with two Kroger managers on Friday. They feel that the lower prices that start April 28, 2013 will offset the ending of double coupons. Note that Kroger will still accept manufacturers coupons, but they will no longer double them.

In my area, we have Giant and Harris Teeter that double coupons up to $0.99. Honestly, I don’t know how Kroger is going to compete with ending the double coupons. It is one of those things that we will have to wait and see how it goes. Are the prices really going to be lower?

The managers I talked to also said that they are working on improving customer service. Their goal is to make it a pleasant shopping experience. I admit that customer service does make a big difference in the stores I choose to shop at.

Official announcement from Kroger:

In an effort to provide you with the most value for your dollar, we are updating our coupon policy and implementing a New Lower Prices program. Effective May 12, 2013, we are discontinuing our practice of doubling (up to 50 cents) manufacturer coupons in the Mid-Atlantic region. We will continue to accept manufacturer coupons and other coupons at face value, including: digital coupons, e-coupons, Catalina coupons and printables. We will also be investing additional resources into lowering prices for our customers on everyday items. We understand that this is a significant change. We hope that you come and see our new low prices – as well as the many other ways to save — for yourself.
• Downloadable, clip-free coupons daily on www.kroger.com
• Special sales events such as Mega Event and Cart Busters
• Fuel savings program that offers up to $1 off per gallon at Kroger Fuel Centers
• 10¢ off per gallon gas savings opportunity at participating Shell stations
• Loyal Customer Mailings containing customized coupons.
• $4/$10 generic drug pricing (see Pharmacy for details)

Will your shopping habits change with this announcement? I know that mine probably will to some extent. I am anxious to see how low those prices go!

If you are in a different Kroger region, I would be on your toes! I think eventually all Kroger regions will end the double coupon program.

Oh this saddens me!! I coupon shop at Kroger probably 3 times a month!!

  2. They stopped double coupons in Cincinnati in April and we have had mildly different adds.
Meat and produce have lowered prices but regular grocery prices seem to be more. I have not noticed any saving in the Two months the Cincinnati area has been on the “Great Foods, Low Prices” campane. The only benefit is you can just have more coupons on your plus card instead of getting paper ones since now they are the same amount.

  3. Sorry Kroger…..you will be loosing my business! The only reason I trek across town is for the double coupon offer. There are plenty of shopping opportunities closer that will price match the adds, and take coupons at face value….why waste the gas?

  4. aye, i do not have any idea about this doubling coupon by Kroger until this post. Thanks for sharing this info!
