A year ago, Capt. M was a shy boy who said no more than 10 words to his Kindergarten teacher the whole year. He has always been strong willed, yet quiet and shy. In new situations he usually hangs back until he feels comfortable.
That all has changed…
Capt. M was invited to a birthday party last week. He has known this boy for two years now but we have never been to his house. I asked Capt. M if he wanted me to stay at the party (as I usually do) or if he wanted to be dropped off. Without hesitation Capt. M shouted out “MOM! Pleeease drop me off! I want to be a big boy.”
So I did just that, I dropped off Capt. M for the first time at a party. He couldn’t wait until I left- telling me “Mom you can go now?” when I was just in the driveway.
He was confident, talkative and independent.
Half my heart was filled with joy for his new found confidence while the other half sank. My little boy is growing so fast! He took me off guard with his need for independence.
For all of you mom’s and dad’s out there that have shy children, take note that there will be a time when they blossom. One day they will be reserved and the next they are ready to leap on their own two feet!
