Meal Planning Hack: Cooking Ahead

Like most of you, my life is crazy busy. Between work, the kids, hubby and all of our extra curricular activities, we are on the run most week nights. On the weekends I try to cook ahead as much as possible. I also do freezer cooking days so that my freezer is full of quick and healthy meals for my family.

The other thing I try to do is to make an extra batch of pasta, couscous or rice to have in the refrigerator. I cook it ahead of time and leave it plain. Then during the week I can turn that plain pasta into a pasta salad or pour some marinara sauce on it for a pasta dish. Having the starch premade makes for very quick meals.

Precooking meat also makes the work week meal plan run smoothly. Brown hamburger for tacos or chili. Precook chicken for salads, wraps or casseroles. The more you can do ahead of time, the easier your work week will be!

If you have food in place to make cooking meals quick and easy, you will be less tempted to go out to eat!
