I (Litsa) love not only a clean house but a fresh smelling one! When I found this DIY solution in Prevention’s April 2013 issue, I knew that I would like to try it. According to Janice Cox, creator of this solution & the author of Natural Beauty at Home, it’s healthy too! “Lemon scent has been shown to lift spirits and elevate levels of mood-improving neurotransmitters, and the plant-derived oils have natural antibacterial properties.”
DIY Solution
1 cup water
2 tsp unflavored vodka (or witch hazel)
1 tsp cornstarch
5 drops organic essential oil of lemon or lavender
Combine ingredients in pitcher. Stir until cornstarch dissolves. Pour into a clean spray bottle.
To use: Spray 6 to 8 inches from surface of upholstery or carpets to freshen and eliminate odors. Shake gently between applications to remix. Yield: 8 ounces
