Try Something New: Almond Butter

Alomnd ButterMy boys LOVE peanut butter! They eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for most lunches. Plus, I use peanut butter to make homemade goodies like granola bars. Capt. M has two children in his class that are allergic to peanuts though. At the beginning of the school year he was told that he can’t have peanut products in the classroom for snack. Luckily, he is still allowed peanuts at lunch since the kids are separated. I had to find an alternative ingredient for my homemade snacks.

I have been using almond butter in my granola bars for a few weeks now. Almond butter has a similar consistency though to peanut butter. The almond butter does separate like “real” peanut butter and it needs to be refrigerated. It is not as sweet as peanut butter though. My boys don’t care for almond butter by itself, however they do like it in the granola bars.

If you are looking for an alternative for peanut butter, give almond butter a try. I think we will try sunflower butter next!
