Try Something New: Chia Pod

Chia podAfter purchasing my first Chia Seeds a year or more ago, I have been eating them weekly if not daily. I add them to my yogurt and granola—and love the added omega 3’s and protein they provide for me and my daughter. I even loved the Chia Shots that The Chia Co offers. Thus, I was delighted to have the opportunity to taste the Vanilla Bean Chia Pod and the Blueberry Chia Pod.

The Chia Pods were mailed directly to our home on dry ice—-ready to eat!?! My daughter and I each taste tested both flavors. She opted for the blueberry. I chose the Vanilla Bean. She ate only half of hers. I ate all of mine thinking that with each bite, I might get accustomed to the texture of the Chia Pod. The Vanilla Bean flavoring was perfect but I didn’t really care for the slimy texture that seemed to mold together in one unit. It wasn’t like yogurt where your spoon cuts easily through. I didn’t have to get out a knife!?! It was soft and smooth but different in texture for me to say I loved it or even liked it enough to buy it. I think I’ll continue enjoying my Chia Seeds in my yogurt, salads, and granola mounds.

The ingredients consisted of “Nothing but sun ripened chia seed, coconut milk, real vanilla bean and real cinnamon!” The little cup of chia came with 3 g of protein & 5 g of dietary fiber! But it also housed 10 g of sugar that I’d rather consume in natural fruit in my yogurt or salads.

When trying something new, I keep an open mind! I’m willing to taste test many items and although I’ll keep consuming chia seeds, I don’t think I’ll buy Chia Pods. The texture didn’t fit my personal taste!

What about you!?! Have you tried The Chia Pod!?!
