Sunbutter

As I mentioned previously, my boys can’t take peanut butter for a snack item due to peanut allergies in their classroom. Since I use a lot of peanut butter in my homemade snacks, I have been trying alternative “butters”. This week we tried Sunbuttter in our granola bars.

Sunbutter is made from roasted sun flower seeds. It is a great alternative for those who are allergic to tree buts. It is made in a factory free of all tree nuts so it is really safe. Sunbutter does separate like natural peanut butter. The oil needs to be mixed back in and it should be refrigerated. It has 7g of protein per serving which is similar to peanut butter.

Granola Bars

Sunbutter is creamy like peanut butter and is a similar consistency. I could taste the sunflower flavor. Mr. B did not care for the Sunbutter plain on a spoon, however when I made the granola bars, both boy loved them!

The big downfall to Sunbutter is it is more expensive than peanut butter.
