Children are naturally curious about everything. As parents, we can help nurture their interests by answering their questions, allowing them to help on tasks that we take on ourselves at home, and by taking time to have conversations with them.

Younger children are interested in most anything that they are not a part of—-start a project and you’ll have more help than you need!?! Or set out a project and you’ll have interested little helpers before you can even finish gathering supplies.

electrical

In our household, we work on art projects but many times, the projects that we are involved in together as a family are the most fun. Our daughter (Litsa’s) loves to work with her dad on electrical issues around the house. She likes to investigate broken toys with him. Since she’s had so many questions about how things work, we’ve allowed her to watch, “How It’s Made” on television. We answer endless questions and make sure we ask her if she’d like to help when it is safe.

stove repairs

When children tire and/or lose interest, they’ll let you know by asking to leave. Allow them out of unfinished tasks if you see that they don’t have an interest and/or have lost interest. Small time frames are appropriate. Additionally, watching schedules so that projects are not started too late is key too. There’s no set way to nurture your children’s curiosity but if you feed it, they are sure to aspire to achieve good things in their lives—-and develop hobbies and interests beyond electronics & social media that are flooding our lives.

Nurture their curiosities. Children are our future.

  1. I think it’s great that you do this. We try to involve our boys in as many projects as we can too. They help with cooking, cleaning, repairing, and everything else we do around here. I figure it’s a great way for them to learn all of the skills they need to run a home on their own. :-)
