Pink Slime Ground Beef Update

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post telling you about the Pink Slime found in some ground beef products. I am thrilled to tell you that many retailers are now discontinuing the use of pink slime! Pressure from consumers and wide internet outrage has made stores make changes. Now I am certain pink slime will not completely go away but I am glad to see improvement!

Earlier this week, Beef Products, Inc suspended production of pink slime at three of their four plants and Cargill has stated it has cut back production. Also there are currently only 5 retailers that I know of that still say they will carry some pink slime products:

These retailers still carry pink slime ground beef:

• Commissaries (Defense Commissary Agency)
• Save Mart
• WinCo (prepackaged)
• Sam’s Club
• WalMart

14 other retailers have stated in the last few weeks that they are no longer going to be carrying pink slime ground beef. This includes Kroger and the Kroger affiliate stores that I know many of you shop at- yay!

    They will just bring it all back once we the consumers forget about it. We will continue to grind our own.

      Hi Danielle,
      I am sure grinding your own is always the best! We will be looking into purchasing local beef this summer. I do think the price of ground beef will go up significantly. We don’t eat a whole lot of ground beef though. I have started using more ground turkey! hmmm, I wonder if there is unwanted stuff in there too?!
