garden seed magazines

Do you see what has landed in my mailbox? Yes, the vegetable garden seed magazines are arriving! Even though it is winter and freezing, I have started planning my Spring vegetable garden. I absolutely love looking through the seed magazines. I will probably thumb through them several times before I decide what we are planting this year. There are so many varieties of vegetables and fruits out there. Read about the different types and what will work best for your growing area.

One thing that I try to do each year is to plant a new crop that I have not planted before. This is where the seed magazines are great! I can read about a new vegetable, and determine if it will work in our climate. Another resource I use to help me decide what to grow is my Vegetable Gardener’s Bible. I can’t tell you how many times I refer to this book during gardening season! There are great tips on planting, troubleshooting problems and dealing with disease.

So even though it is winter, start planning your vegetable garden! The very first step in preparing for a vegetable garden is to determine what you want to plant. Do some research. Remember that you will want to plant flowers in the vegetable garden too! Flowers not only attract beneficial insects, but they can also deter pest too. Once you know what you want to plant, you can better prepare the garden soil and plot out the garden design.
