Capt M Eating a Pepper

All of the school supplies are bought, labeled and organized. In just a few days I send my oldest son off to kindergarten. As a mom, this is one of the toughest milestones yet.

I know Capt. M will do fantastic in school. He is smart and eager to learn. He is ready and excited. That is not the difficult part; it’s the letting go.

Yes, I am letting Capt. M go. He will now be inĀ  a huge school with so many other influences. I won’t be there to protect and monitor him. I think this is tough for many mom’s, especially with the first child. It’s a necessary step in life but one that pulls on mom’s heart strings. Even writing this I have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.

I am a worrier by nature and I am sure this plays a big role in the emotions I am experiencing. Yes I will be that mom at the buss stop needing a tissue! In the end, I know things will be okay. It will take a couple of weeks of adjustment but eventually we will ease into a routine.

I have heard by the time the second one goes to school, it won’t be such a big deal. Mr. B will probably be pushed out the door! No, not really. But I am told it gets easier with the second child. Plus I am sure there are much more difficult milestones to come!

Anyways, all of you experienced elementary school moms, I want to hear from you. Did you have a hard time when your oldest went to kindergarten?

  1. It’s been a while for me… my oldest is now 13 and I’ve had 5 more go to school since!!!! But, I do remember being a bit apprehensive… but knowing it was an exciting adventure for him and seeing him be a “big boy” is so neat…
School seems like a scary , big place… but he will find his way… I volunteered alot in the classrooms too. That always helped ease my anxiety a litle as I got to know his teachers and spend time there.
