red ketlleThe Salvation Army’s red kettle always gleams its own shining star this season for our family! I (Litsa) love to hear the little bells ringing as we enter and exit the stores’ entrances. With each chime, I’m reminded how fortunate we are to give—-and even amidst the worries of our day, there are others serving, giving—-and those waiting to receive what we may perhaps take for granted.

A little change. Dollar bills. A check………

Will you give to the red kettles this season?

“We provided 10,847,192 people with a warm bed last year. What’s your #RedKettleReason? http://salar.my/InnHf9” Have you read this post on the Salvation Army USA post via Facebook

Astounding.

These simple facts are perfect notations to read aloud and discuss as a family. Allow children to hear your insights and read the statistics—-and allow them to give a handful of change when they see the red kettles and say…

“Mommy, do you have any change?”

Sophia Fall 2010 059When my daughter (Litsa’s) was two and a half, she kept returning to the kettle to deposit money near the ringing bell. She loved the shiny bell too—inspecting it closely to see how it was ringing!?! This year, she asked if we’d get to put money in the red kettles before we even saw the first one in front of the stores. I smiled as she filled my soul with gratitude—for I know the plans I have for you (the silent reading of this scripture was entangled in my heart with her verbalized request to give).

‘Tis the season of giving!

Make it count!
