Since it has been extremely hot here in central Virginia, we have been watching movies in the afternoon. We are lucky to have a Redbox kiosk just a few miles from home – pretty cool since we live in a rural area! This summer has brought changes in movie viewing for us since the boys are now interested in movies other than animation. It is nice to watch a non-animated movie that the whole family enjoys!

We recently watched Dolphin Tale as a family. This movie has a special place in my heart and I found myself fighting tears at several points. You might remember that I mentioned a young girl in my area that is battling cancer. She recently lost her leg to cancer and was supposed to go visit Winter – the dolphin in the movie. Unfortunately, this young girl had a re-occurrence and had to cancel her trip to see Winter. I so hope that she is well enough to take that trip soon.

Capt. M (age 5) and Mr. B (age 4) enjoyed watching Dolphin Tale. They loved the pesky pelican! They found many parts of the movie funny and they were entertained the whole time. Since they are so young, they didn’t understand the disability connection completely. However, I am glad that they were exposed to it. Kids are curious and I love that Dolphin Tale gives kid’s an idea of what different prosthetics look like. Plus there is a happy ending which is always a big bonus in my book!

Here is a short video of my boys review of Dolphin Tale:
