sausage & cheese wonton appetizer

My sister in law found a recipe for Sausage Wonton Stars that she makes for many of our gathers. They are very easy to make and everyone loves them. I modified the recipe to make it even more kid friendly since the original calls for green and sweet peppers.

Sausage & Cheese Wonton Appetizers

1 Package Wonton Wrappers
1 Pound Pork Sausage (I like to use the Jimmy Dean Sage)
2 Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 Small Onion, diced
1/2 Cup Ranch Dressing

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Lightly grease a muffin pan. Place one wonton wrapper in each muffin cup lightly pressing it onto the bottom and sides of the pan. Bake for 5 minutes or until edges are slightly browned.

In a large skillet cook sausage until no longer pink. Remove sausage from the pan. Add diced onions and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes or until tender. Drain any excess grease. In a bowl mix sausage, onions, cheese and ranch dressing. Place a spoonful of filling into each wonton cup inside the muffin pan. Bake for 6-7 minutes or until heated through.

Tips

  • Use a mini muffin pan for bite size appetizers.
  • Add red, yellow and green bell pepper for color and added flavor.
  • Cook the sausage ahead of time to save time.
