Rice Krispies Treats are a favorite in many households. The wonderful thing about these gooey treats is that they can be made a variety of ways. I am participating in the Holiday Rice Krispies Recipe Box Challenge with 30 other bloggers. Our challenge is to create a “show stopper” Rice Krispies Treats Recipe.

My recipe is based on the snow globe decorations that a prominent this time of year. The idea is that each place setting could have an edible snow globe. The dessert serves as a decoration too!

Snow Globe Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Treats

Rice Krispies Treats Ingredients

3 Tblsp. Butter
10 oz. Marshmallows (40 Large)
1/2 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
6 Cups Rice Krispies

Decorating Ingredients

(14 oz.) Bag of Candy Melts
Black Licorice
Round Chocolate Candies
Sprinkles
Fruit Roll Ups
Shredded Coconut
Frosting

Globe

Small plate or a piece of tin foil
Glass candle holder
Decorative candle ring

In a saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add in marshmallows and heat slowly until they melt. Add in 1/2 cup peanut butter and stir until mixed with melted marshmallow mixture. Pour in Rice Krispies and mix well.

Spray your hands with cooking spray and then mold the Rice Krispies Treats into shapes. For Snowmen, roll two different size balls. Let the Rice Krispies Treats cool.

dipping rice krispies treats

When the treats are cool, heat the candy melt according to package directions. Dip the Rice Krispies Treats in the candy melt and coat. Stick a toothpick in the Rice Krispies Treats for easy dipping. Set the coated pieces on wax paper to dry.

When the candy coat has dried, you are ready to decorate! For snowmen, stack the balls. Use a fruit roll up to make a scarf and hat. Cut black licorice to make eyes and buttons. Use the frosting as glue to apply the licorice. For the nose, use a toothpick to prick a hole in the candy coat. Add a long sprinkle to the hole. Take a small plate and add shredded coconut for snow. Place the snowman in the middle of the coconut and then place a globe over top. Place the candle ring around the globe for additional flare.

I had so much fun with this project! I also created several trees and presents out of the Rice Krispies Treats. It was difficult to get good pictures with the glass globe on so here are a few without the glass.

Honestly – I just love the cereal as is, but it is fun to make regular Rice Krispie Treats with my daughter. Though not nearly as mess-free as the commercials look! That stuff gets sticky when you mix it all up.
