Tips for Preparing Meals for the Work Week

weekly menu plan

I thought it would be helpful to share with you my Sunday afternoon routine. It is on Sunday afternoon that I do the majority of my meal planning for the week. Having a plan in place and having some food prepared ahead of time, makes the week run smoothly. My family would not eat as healthy as we do if I did not do my Sunday prep work.

Green-juice

I usually start with juicing around 2pm on Sunday. This has just become a good time to do this task! It’s after church, lunch and a quick nap (usually!) that I feel energized to start the cooking/ prepping routine. It takes me about an hour to wash, chop, juice and cleanup enough juice for three days.

After juicing, I usually start making snacks for the boys lunch. Usually I make some sort of granola bar, snack cups and muffins or quick bread. This usually takes me to around 4-4:30 depending on how many things I make and how many interruptions I get!

Pantry Organization Litsa

Next up is Sunday night dinner. During my dinner prep, I take inventory of what we have in the fridge, pantry and freezer. From there I start making my dinner menu plan for the week. If I need extra meat cooked for a meal, I will try to cook it along with dinner on Sunday. Sometimes I make two meals at once. I also plan on leftovers for my lunches!

We try to eat by 5:30 or 6. That means I spend approximately 3-4 hours on Sunday afternoon preparing for the week. Now, I will say that I am sure I could speed up this process. Sunday’s are usually leisurely around here so I am in now rush (at least as the weather is cold and we are not outdoors!). Those hours also include some cleanup time.

Even if you don’t have 3 hours to prep for the week, spend an hour. I am sure you could get a lot done in an hour if you were organized and focused!
