Travel Tip: Keys

Yesterday morning was complete chaos around here. It is really comical as I look back although in the moment it wasn’t.

We are still on vacation staying at a timeshare resort in a condo. After a trip to the grocery store, hubby and I were unloading the car. We left the condo door open as we had several trips back and forth. Our boys were on the back deck playing. All of the sudden hubby comes to me asking if I had a key to the condo. NO! I left the door wide open.

As you can guess, the boys decided to venture out the front and shut the door behind them. So there we were with no cellphone, no condo key and no car keys. I know you are thinking no big deal, just got to the desk and get another key.

This resort is very spread out. The “front desk” is more than a mile away. Hubby hops on Capt. M’s bike, which was comical since Capt. M is 5, and rides off to get a key! I wish I had a camera- but of course it was locked in the condo!

As hubby starts off on his bike ride, the kids and I start cleaning out the car. Might as well be productive. Not two minutes later, Mr. B starts screaming. I mean real screaming. In a panic I rush over to him by the trash can. He had been bitten by yellow jackets on both feet. Oh. my. word!

I had nothing to ease his pain. He was screaming and crying for a good five minutes before I flagged some neighbors down for help. Some wonderful ladies brought all kinds of “remedies” ice, creams, garlic, etc. It was quite the scene.

Just as I get Mr. B calmed down, hubby appears all sweaty from his bike ride (the last part is up a steep hill!) with a condo key!

So the moral of the story is, NEVER leave your vacation condo without a key. Even if you have the door open. Now I leave with my key and cellphone even if I am just walking out to the car for a minute.
