Try Something New: Chia Seeds

I recently stumbled upon a company called The Chia Co. Thy are the world’s largest producer of natural, raw Chia seeds. In their company’s overview, they state, “Our farms are located in the pristine Kimberley region of Western Australia exactly 15 degrees south of the equator. Growing Chia at this latitude provides the ideal conditions, maximising the Omega 3 profile in every seed. At The Chia Company we can guarantee the quality of our products because we grow them ourselves.”

I had heard of Chia seeds before but had never come across them while out shopping! And I definitely haven’t spotted a coupon for them! However, The Chia Co noted an email address on their Facebook page offering another customer the opportunity to try a sample of Chia seeds. Although it was a few weeks old, I emailed the company for a package of seeds. They were ready to serve!

When I received my sample packet to Chia seeds today, I just cut open the sample packet and poured them into my mouth—tiny, tiny seeds! They reminded me of flax seeds. I love all types of nuts/seeds so I kept eating them straight out of the package! Anything for more energy right?

The Chia Co products are mild in tasting and easy to include in your everyday diet, our product range includes:

  • Chia Seeds (available in various sizes)
  • Chia Ground Seed
  • Chia Bran
  • Chia Oil

I personally thought the tiny seeds were mild and the perfect size to add to my diet for their magnificent health benefits! I believe anyone can include them in their diet too. I’m ready to start adding them to all of my salads and smoothies! Or carrying the packets around in my purse to eat anytime, anywhere…….

The company denotes that “Chia is the richest plant based source of Omega 3, dietary fibre, protein and antioxidants. Chia is available in two colour varieties. The ‘black’ variety of Chia naturally contains a combination of black, and white seeds. The ‘white’ Chia variety was formed by specially selecting white seeds from the black variety. The Chia Company grows dedicated paddocks of black and white seed. Aside from the obvious colour difference, the seed itself is virtually the same in all of its properties – size, taste and smell, with the exception of a few minor seasonal nutritional differences. We refer to Chia as Nature’s Complete Superfood because it is very high in nutrition that is essential for a healthy diet including Omega 3, dietary fibre and protein as well as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.”

Our local health food store offers chia seeds that you can scoop up in a bag and purchase for $0.90 a pound! Or you can order your seeds and other Chia products online at The Chia Co like I did today for only $8 flat rate. Order your CHIA Seeds today at 15% off after signing up for their newsletter HERE!
