Morel Mushroom

Last week my coworkers mom stopped by the office with some morel mushrooms. She foraged for the morel mushrooms in the forest! I had never had a morel mushroom so she gave me some to try.

Morel mushrooms have a honeycomb top. They grow in the spring in moist areas. Morels are a delicate tasting mushroom with a taste that is hard to describe. Many people fry them with a a flour or cornmeal coating or saute them in butter.

If you have never foraged for morels, I strongly suggest that you go with someone that has! There are many poisonous mushrooms out there. There are some online tutorials like this basic mushrooming information. However, I think it is always best to go with someone experienced.

My friend’s mom has been foraging for morels for many, many years so I trust her judgement!

Have you foraged for mushrooms before? Have you found morels in your own yard?
