Try Something New: Quinoa

I went to Whole Foods and spent my Groupon voucher on grains. I have heard about Quinoa but never tried it. I figured this was a perfect item for Try Something New!

Quinoa is a nutrient rich grain. Many health conscious people are using quinoa in place of rice. Quinoa is considered a complete protein due to it’s high protein content and essential amino acids. It is also a good source of magnesium, phosphorus, dietary fiber and iron. Uncooked quinoa looks like a seed. It is cooked similar to rice- two cups liquid to one cup quinoa. Once the quinoa is cooked the seed opens up and a little white curl appears.

Hubby and I really enjoyed quinoa. I made it with Italian herbs and sundried tomatoes- recipe coming soon! The quinoa itself is a mild flavor so it can be flavored with several different spices.

Have you tried quonia or anything new this week?
