We didn’t try any new fruits or vegetables in our house this week. So, I thought I would share a baking tip with you! I often use applesauce in baking breads and muffins. Every Fall I can applesauce not only to eat plain but to bake with.

To cut down on the fat content on quick breads and muffins you can use applesauce instead of vegetable oil! It is an even substitution. So if the recipe calls for 1/4 cup of oil, use 1/4 cup of applesauce instead. Note that this does not work for butter. If a recipe calls for a solid fat like butter, this little trick won’t work.

An example of a recipe using applesauce is my Apple Cranberry Bread Recipe.

All Recipes has a great list of common ingredient substitutions!
