Tips for Shopping at Kroger

Many of you know that the main grocery store I focus on is Kroger. Since I shop at Kroger primarily, it is easy for me to do the Kroger matchups! Some of you may be new to shopping at Kroger so here are a few tips for you!

Kroger has grocery stores all throughout the United States. Some of the stores are under a different name such as Dillons, Fred Meyer, Smith’s and Ralphs. Although the stores may be a different name and operate under different coupon policies, most of the sale items each week are about the same across the Nation. Of course prices vary slightly and ads start on different days. Below are a few tips for shopping at Kroger and Kroger affiliated stores.

  • Kroger usually runs a two week ad. That means that most of the items in the ad will be on sale for a two week period. This is especially true for Mega Event weeks. This is very helpful for getting coupons together!
  • The Mid-Atlantic Kroger ad comes out on Sunday and is usually a preview for all of the other areas. If your Kroger ad starts on a different day, check out the Mid-Atlantic ad in advance so you can plan ahead.
  • Kroger does accept eCoupons but no longer allows stacking of eCoupons and paper coupons. The eCoupon will override the paper coupon so be careful of which ones you load to your card. Remember it is against Kroger coupon policy to stack coupons even though some people have figured out a way to work around this.
  • For Mega Events, you must buy a certain amount of participating items in one transaction to get the instant discount. For example, if the Mega Event is buy 10, save $5, you must buy in multiples of 10 participating items to save $0.50 per item.
  • When Kroger advertises the 10 for $10 sale you do not have to buy all 10 items. They want you to think this is a Mega Event and get you to buy excess. This is a marketing ploy and what I call deceptive advertising!
  • Kroger’s scan right guarnatee protects you when an item rings up incorrectly. If the item is under $5.00, you will receive the item for FREE and get a full refund.
