Roasting Marshmallows in January?

When I think of roasting marshmallows my mind automatically takes me to Spring and Summer camping trips. I have never thought of roasting marshmallows in January – until now!

We had some marshmallows laying around leftover from the Rice Krispies Challenge. Capt. M and Mr. B. kept asking to roast marshmallows since they enjoyed doing that last summer. This past weekend the temperature soared to the upper 40’s – warm enough to send the kids outside for a short time. After all they have been couped up inside for what seems like months!

I prefer my marshmallows to be lightly toasted- just a tinge of golden brown. Hubby prefers slightly burnt. How do you like your marshmallows?

We don’t have a fire pit, but often treat ourselves to this over the warmth of our grill (grill plates removed, of course)! Love the experience of gathering around a fire pit, alas, where we live restricts us to things like that – but I think wonderful memories can be made! Good for you!
Oh! and if the kids get to “squirrel-y” from being cooped up – feel free to bring summer here sooner. Plan a luau (complete with trash bag hula skirts) fruit smoothies and a roaring fire for warmth! My boys and I had great fun doing this when they were younger. Be sure to play some sounds of summer music too! Limbo and dance contests get the wiggles out and then wind down with a Lilo and Stitch, or other beach party themed movie! Before you know it, the warm weather will be here in no time but until it is, your spirit will be warmed with the memories you make for certain!

    • Love the Luau idea Heather! We did eat a fresh pineapple this week- Sharp Shopper $1.99! We also had a dance party which was mostly mommy dancing with the boys laughing at me hysterically! It was a good workout though!

  2. I’m with you!! Lightly toasted – golden brown and no burnt edges! Perfect!
