What do you do with your change?

One thing that we do in order to save spending money for vacations is to collect our change. We have a glass jug that all of the loose change goes into. The week before we go on vacation, the change is counted. It is surprising how much the change really adds up! It is not uncommon for us to have a over $100 in change in our jug.

Capt. M. and Mr. B. have piggy banks too. It is never too early to teach kids the value of money! In fact, last week Capt. M. was playing with his piggy bank. He was calling everything a penny. It was the perfect opportunity to go over the difference in the coins. At the age of four, he doesn’t quite understand how much a quarter can buy but he does know that it’s more than a penny!

Your task  this week is to find a jar, jug, bottle or bank and start collecting your change. Set a goal for what you want to spend the change on- vacation, new clothes, a facial, etc. It will be fun to see how long it takes to fill your container up and how much you have to spend on your special item!

  1. We save our change too for vacations. We have 2 jars 1 for pennys and 1 for silver. We are waiting till the entire 5 gallon jug is full of pennys before we count it. Our silver jar has a counter on it at half full there is 100 in it so im hopeing it will be full before vacation!

  2. Very neat!

  3. We go to Disney each year & so all the change in our “Disney Jar” goes towards souvenirs at the park. Here is what it looks like: http://bit.ly/gyPeaY
