Coffee Cup

Did you know that coffee grounds can be used in your garden? After you drink your morning coffee, use the leftover coffee grounds in your filter for compost. Coffee grounds are rich in nitrogen which is needed for plant growth.

There are several ways to use your leftover coffee grounds.

  • Sprinkle the coffee grounds on the soil around the base of the plant.
  • Work the coffee grounds into the soil.
  • Place the grounds in your compost bin.
  • Worms like coffee grounds and worms are good for your garden!
  • Coffee grounds may deter garden pests like snails and slugs.

Starbucks has a program in place called Grounds for Your Garden. You can stop in and pick up a 5lb. box of used coffee grounds for FREE! Of course it is always hit or miss on whether they will have any left that day. I would suggest talking to the employees at a store near you and let them know you are interested.
