Developing Oral Health Care Habits

As most of you know, I am a registered dental hygienist. Therefore dental health is always on my mind. Oral health care is not only important for the health of your mouth but the health of your whole body! Although I often preach the importance of brushing, flossing and rinsing with my family, we still struggle to get everything in everyday. My boys are just like any other kid, I have to remind them several times a day to brush and to make sure they use toothpaste! It doesn’t cut it to just wet the brush!

One thing that I have added to my boys oral health routine that they really like is a fluoride rinse. LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® is a fluoride anticavity rinse. I like that this mouthwash doesn’t contain alcohol. It also has premeasured cup at the top of the bottle that the kids can squeeze the mouthwash into. This ensures that they don’t use too much mouthwash.

The sample we received was mint flavored and I was afraid that my son would not like it. However, it is a mild mint and he ended up enjoying it! LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® does come in two other flavors if your kids are not mint fans. I strongly encourage the use of LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® since it provides 12 hours of cavity protection. The rinse gets in the hard to reach places and fluoride suppresses bacterial growth and stabilizes the minerals that keep teeth strong.

Another thing my boys struggle with is flossing regularly. The LISTERINE® ULTRACLEAN® ACCESS® Flosser makes flossing a breeze. The long handle makes reaching the back teeth very easy. This flosser is also great for adults to assist kids in flossing. No more reaching your hands in your child’s mouth! If you can make flossing fun, they are more apt to do it!

As for me, the one LISTERINE product I like keeping in my purse is LISTERINE® POCKETPAKS® Breath Strips. These little strips pack a powerful punch! The strips dissolve on your tongue killing 99% of the germs that cause bad breath. As an aside, did you know you are supposed to brush your tongue? Yes, start adding that to your oral care routine!

Developing an oral health care routine doesn’t have to be hard. Use products that make it easier for your family to incorporate dental health into your daily routine. Plus be a role model for your kids and you will be a Healthy Habit Hero!
